We plan for so many things in life, but we hardly follow our plan. One of the situations when our plan does not work is while doing a group study. I have planned so many times to study with my friends in library or at someone's house. Most of my plans fail in this situation. Because all we do is fun. Before the plan, everyone looks very serious about it. We select a topic that we will discuss in the meeting. It turns out to be a totally different scenario. We end up gossiping, eating, listening to music etc. If we plan to meet in the library, then maybe we will be seen studying a little bit. But if we plan to study in someone's house, then nothing can stop us to have fun. We always have something to share with our friends! I am sure a lot of students face this situation as well. They expect to study hard with their friends in a group meeting. In reality, all they do is something else besides study. Not everyone face the same situation. Some people can actually study in a group and follow their plan. I see it as a part of studying actually! It is not bad to get some refreshment while studying. It really clears your mind and helps to focus on study. When the fun part takes most of the study time, then there will be a problem.

An job interview is a face to face interaction between the interviewer and the candidate. Job interviewing never seems to get any easier, even you have extensive interview experiences and skills. You have to sell yourself to get their attention, answer some tricky questions from the company's manager during the process of interview. As a university full-time student, I always make ample preparations for the job interview, but it seems that many thing in our lives go by contrary. I remembered that one job interview I go through with, I was confident and answered all questions manager need. I thought I definitely can get the job. But after several weeks later, I did not get any phone call or email from the comany! I rechecked the email account and phone number I gave to the company just for a psychological comforting. I started to get nervous and for the job thing, but they told me they already hired other people. I could not believe that I failed, even I tried my best during the interview.
 Just like someone said, the bigger the expectation, the more bitter the disappointment.

We have all had that experience at a hairdresser where you notice you are losing more and more hair as scissors seem to be flying at warp speed around your head. After they finish and give you a mirror to have a look, it definitely not what you expect to get. The bad haircut is frustrating and scary;The first thing we would do after get a bad haircut is go crazy and start raging, then calm down and start raging again. Most of people try to find ways to move my hair around to make it look better. If that fails, then they try to look for ways to cut it a little bit to make it look better. Getting a bad haircut is a living nightmare for most of people, especially since we have had our hair done up for a special occasion! We afraid of someone look at us like nuts, and then we have to shave our hair at home so that we can go outside with friends, That's so awful!

Who doesn't love to travel? For some people, travelling is a dream that comes true once a year for the annual holiday.  For us, we get the chance to travel twice a year luckily, summer and winter holiday . We have about two months break coming this December! Now coming to think of it, why do people travel? There are many reasons such as to take rest, challenge yourself, refresh the mind, enjoy new experiences, learn about other countries’ culture or just to have fun. Whatever your reasons for travelling, it is always interesting and exciting thing to do during the holidays.
 

I used to search for different beautiful places before I go to travel somewhere and I believe that many other people do it as well. We see the pictures of amazing places and decide to go there. However, we may actually find the place that we don't expect. Our expectation is that we will see an exactly same place as shown in the pictures that we have looked before. But in reality, the place is not that wonderful. There are several reasons that this difference of places between expectation and reality occurs. It could be weather, season, quality of camera or it could be really different. So my suggestion is, you should better ask for different people's opinion about how the place actually looks like in different time of the year and read the reviews of people who have been there already. In this way, you won't be disappointed if you find a different scenario. I hope you all are preparing for your exam. After that, why not plan for travelling?

Being part of a competition is so much fun. There is always excitement about who is going to win and who will lose. I like to watch all the competitors face reaction and thrill before the competition starts. In every competition, you will find someone who is too over confident. They probably just like to show off or impress people. So the audience’s expectation gets higher as well. Some people might end up cheering for them as well. In reality, they turn out to be a complete loser because of their over confidence.

It is good to be confident when you are in a competition. It really increases the chance to actually win. But we should always remember that there is someone out there who could be better than us. That is why we should never be too confident. Just believe in your hard work.

Sometimes our expectation is so high that we forget there is a cruel competitive world out there waiting for us. Sometimes I have seen discrimination, unfair advantage to others and bullying during the competition. You just have to face the reality.

Another kind of expectation could be cheering from our country in an international sports competition.  It could be for our own country or may be for any football or cricket team. I have seen Indian people getting crazy if their team cannot win in a match. They expect that their cricket team will win every match. But in reality, it is impossible to do so. Others let down our expectation and we also let down others expectation sometimes.

More than 70% of women think they are ugly and 50% of women think they are fat. Women, who think they are fat but are actually of normal weight, have a lower self-confidence in life than those who are obese but believe they are of normal weight. I don’t know what they expect to be, but the truth is they are good looking anyway. They may think that their real weight is not the same as they expect it should be.

 

On the other hand, the male thinking is totally different in this case. Most men, I think, have a very high self esteem. I can only think of a couple men I met who have lack of confidence in themselves. Where as a woman, we tend to be always either self-conscious or have a low self esteem in some way, shape, or form. Sure, there are women who think that they are hot. But most of the time, they lack confidence somewhere.

I bet if you ask guys about how they rate themselves on a scale of 1 to 10, they would rate themselves closer to 10. Where if you ask women, they would probably rate themselves lower and then pick out what they don’t like about themselves.

Expectation is not reality. You might reach on it someday, somehow. But remember; be confident in whatever your reality is. It may never meet your expectation. Just be happy with your looks. Don’t complain about your lacking. Because your reality could be worse than what you are.

I am always faced by this question- which quality do you look for in your boyfriend? I start to give a list of qualities that I expect that my boyfriend should have. I am sure a lot of people have this kind of list in their mind. For girls, their boyfriend has to be handsome, tall, rich, caring, understanding and protective, have giant muscles etc.



Reality

For boys, their girlfriend has to be beautiful, charming, cute, caring, not possessive etc. Everyone likes to believe that one day their dream boy or dream girl will come into their life and change their life for better. Some people find their dream partner and some people don’t. Most of the time people have to compromise. It is never possible to get all the qualities in one person. If the person is good looking, he is not rich. If he is rich, he is not caring. The more you expect, the more you will be disappointed. Reality is not like a dream.

This approach, of course, rarely allows for the sort of interaction and active learning that more hands-on, practical sessions can facilitate.

As university students, we all have faced a lecture, but it is often hard in boring lectures to keep focused. Most of students cannot stop themselves falling asleep during a boring class. Of course, we could keep our laptop open or read the textbook during the class to keep myself from falling asleep, but even 10 minutes feel like a month when we are sitting in a boring lecture! It is practically impossible to even stay awake. Therefore, some of the students start to do some immature things, such as try to draw a caricature of the lecturer, tear paper from their notebook and make paper boats, keep looking at their watch every minute and take a nap. As the lecturer goes about ranting about different theories, all that you can think of is when will the bell ring!

 

 

 

Blog #7 Expectations and Reality in Food

It was last Tuesday when I invited some of my friends in my house. I didn't get enough time before to cook anything for them.so I decided to buy some ready to cook food. I bought packed fish fillet for them. The picture on the packet looked really big and mouth-watering. I was expecting to have a great time with my friends. In reality; I was embarrassed because of the food. When I took out the food to defrost it and bake it, I was shocked to see the size of those fillets. I was really disappointed. As I did not have any choice, I had to serve them something. I was just hoping that it would taste better. But it did not taste as I expected. My question is that we are paying money for these things but we are not getting the high quality food. It is not only applicable for the ready to cook meals. Sometimes it is found in restaurants as well. The way people advertise is mesmerizing! But the producers don’t realize that by doing that, they are going to lose their customers. They won’t have any repetitive customer.

At least I am not falling for this again! This happens for some product and companies. I have found some foods really delicious and the same quantity as shown in the pictures. Sometimes reality surprises us and meets our expectation. (But most of the time they don’t)

To make their eyes beautiful , girls want to get long eyelashes. So they look for posts or videos such as, how to make your eyelashes look long and thick or how to get long lashes. We all know there are mascaras, which will make your eyelashes longer.
We buy mascara with an expectation that when we will apply this, we will look amazing and our eyes will sparkle! However, in reality, our eyelashes can never get that long as shown in those model in advertisement! In Japan, there is a famous style, called Gyaru. Gyaru fashion is getting popular among foreigners. Gyaru style looks like a Barbie doll and people think they are cute!Many girls have tried this Gyaru makeup and they were disappointed. So for all the ladies who are reading this, don't expect that you will look like a movie or TV star by applying their brand of make up. The reality is different. My advice would be choose your make up wisely and the brand that suits you. Don't get fooled by the advertisement.Keep yourself stylish.

One thing I check on a regular basis is the weather of Sydney.Nowadays everyone has got i phone or android phone. They have got different applications which gives us the weather update. For the past couple of years, it has become really hard to predict the weather. I am not saying that these apps don't work. But I have faced a totally different weather many times. I was dependent on these apps too, well...I still am dependent. As sometimes we have to attend classes from morning till evening, we need to know how the weather will change during the day. Students have to be careful for a lot of things. It happened a lot of times when I expected a sunny weather and it started raining  suddenly. As a result, I got wet as I forgot to bring my umbrella with me. It is a big hassle to keep an umbrella all the time. The bag gets heavy. We have to carry a lot of  books. I think more than 50 times it happened that I thought to bring my umbrella with me, but I didn't for the heavy bag and then I regretted about it later. And another day, My bag was heavy but I took my umbrella with me as I was expecting rain, it did not rain at all. Specially for girls weather prediction is really important as we have to dress up according to the weather. If the weather is sunny and dry, we would put light make up. And if we are expecting a cold weather, we can put heavy make up. But it is different from person to person. It is a matter of our health as well. We don't take a jumper or heavy clothes expecting a sunny weather. But at the end of the day, the weather turns out to be really cold and we get flu or fever.So the moral of the story is- Don't expect that the weather predictions are always right. The reality can be different.Always carry an umbrella and heavy clothes inside your bag. It is more hassle when you fall sick for not bringing these with you.I know it is not a new thing... just to remind everyone again. We should take precaution for our own benefit and safety. We can not rely on the weather prediction all the time. Reality is far away from our expectations.

I am pretty sure that most of the students have to go through this problem: finding a good place to live in. After coming to Australia for study, I had to do the same too. I wanted a place which is cheap and nice at the same time. I am sure a lot of people will agree with me that house rent in Sydney is very high.I started looking for different advertisements for rent. I found out a lot of beautiful places. The pictures of the rooms were so nice! But when I went for inspection, I faced the reality of those advertisements. If they say, its fully furnished, it means we are giving you a bed and a study table.That is it! If it says a double bed, it means a medium bed.If it says, the house is located near the bus stop, train station and shopping mall, that means you have to walk a long way to get there. The possibility is 1 in 1000 that you will find the same place that is shown in the pictures.I have found that 1 place for myself which actually matched with the pictures. So my advice for people who are searching for a place is- don't expect too much.the reality is much worse. Finally good luck to those people who are still searching for their dream house.
